RoboCupJunior USA OnStage is a competition that integrates science, technology, engineering and the arts. Teams of two to five students present a 1-2 minute creative stage performance using autonomous robots that they have designed, built and programmed. The OnStage challenge is intended to be open-ended insofar as the performers can present any type of performing art they choose, including dance, storytelling, theatre and performance art.  The challenge emphasizes creativity, often bringing one or more robots together dressed in costume, moving alone or with humans. Teams are encouraged to be as creative, innovative and entertaining as possible. The competition often involves a wide range of roles for team members, including software design and development, robot design and construction, performance planning and choreography, set design and construction, costume design, music and video design and implementation.

OnStage Sub-Leagues

OnStage has two sub-leagues: OnStage Primary, for competitors ages 8 - 13 and OnStage Open, for competitors ages 14-19. All ages are determined as of July 1, 2024.

In order to ensure that we have a robust USA competition, any OnStage sub-league that has fewer than 10 registered teams may ask its teams to compete against teams from another OnStage sub-league.

OnStage Team Size

Each OnStage team should have 2 to 5 members.

Advancing to the International Competition

OnStage at the RoboCupJunior international championships will have ONLY the OnStage Open sub-league and not an OnStage Primary sub-league. Accordingly, teams wishing to be able to qualify to participate in internationals must compete in the OnStage Open sub-league at the USA competition. PLEASE NOTE that the winning team from the Open sub-league must meet a minimum scoring threshold for that team to be invited to the international competition.

COMPETITION RULES

Competition rules are posted in the OnStage Team Resources section of this site.
